Website: http://www.wseas.org/

WSEAS is the World Scientific and Engineering Academy and Society, a
nonprofit which funds research, organizes conventions, and publishes
journals. The current President is Dr. Charles Long, emeritus
professor of biology at the University of Wisconsin at Steven's Point.

Within the years 2004-2007, about 7000 articles published by WSEAS
have been indexed by INSPEC[1].

WSEAS organizes and sponsors more than fifty conferences [2] per year
and publishes several scientific journals[3] like: The WSEAS
TRANSACTIONS ON CIRCUITS AND SYSTEMS[4](SCImago: 0,039), the [5]
SCImago: 0,038, the WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON SYSTEMS AND CONTROL[6], the
WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON SYSTEMS AND CONTROL[7] SCImago: 0,039, the WSEAS
TRANSACTIONS ON COMPUTERS[8] SCImago: 0,038, the WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON
MATHEMATICS[9] SCImago: 0,039, the WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON
ELECTRONICS[10] SCImago: 0,038, the WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON BUSINESS AND
ECONOMICS[11], the WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON BIOLOGY AND BIOMEDICINE[12],
the WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON INFORMATION SCIENCE AND APPLICATIONS[13]
SCImago: 0,039, the WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON ADVANCES in ENGINEERING
EDUCATION[14], the WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON APPLIED AND THEORETICAL
MECHANICS[15], the WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER[16],
the WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON FLUID MECHANICS[17], the WSEAS TRANSACTIONS
ON SIGNAL PROCESSING[18], the WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON ENVIRONMENT AND
DEVELOPMENT[19], the WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON POWER SYSTEMS[20] The
difficulty to publish a paper in WSEAS Journals is considerably high
as you can see from the official Acceptance Rates that have been given
by the Editors-in-Chief of the WSEAS Journals. The Acceptance Rate is
defined as Acceptance Rate = (Number of Accepted Papers) / (Number of
Submitted Papers) *100 and in most of the WSEAS Journals it is around
10%. Similarly, the Acceptance Rate in WSEAS Conferences is around to
35%. See Acceptance Rates for the Journals:

Conferences through the post-conference reports:

The WSEAS gives also high readability to published papers having open
the WSEAS E-Library [21] The only thing that you will need to make
one-time registration in one conference or to pay one annual
subscription to receive a password without expiry date. Practically,
the WSEAS E-LIBRARY is open for all with more than 50000 visits per
month is open for all the WSEAS members and WSEAS allows the scanning
from the search engines (google, etc....)].[22]

The WSEAS Press publishes High Quality Textbooks, Monographies, Other
Conference Proceedings. WSEAS can also undertake to include them in
several international indexes. The full text of your book is sent to
five international reviewers and after 3 months the author(s)
receive(s) the reviewers' comments with the recommendation of the
Associate Editor for publication or not. At the same time interval of
these 3 months the author(s) must not negotiate(s) the publication of
the book with any other international publisher Policy for the WSEAS
Books.[27] Recent WSEAS Books.[28]

[edit] Social Profile and Philanthropy of the WSEAS
The WSEAS is a non-for-profit organization with several acts of
donating money, goods, time (see below). WSEAS efforts are extended to
support a charitable cause, usually over an extended period of time
and in regard to a defined objective. In a more fundamental sense, the
WSEAS philanthropy may encompass any altruistic activity which is
intended to promote good or improve human quality of life. The WSEAS
does not discriminate people according national, racial, religious,
and class differences. WSEAS snuggles all the nations, cultures and
religions as you can see below.

You can read for example the Letter of Petros Molyviatis, Minister of
External Affairs and President of Fire Victims here [29] Throughout
the summer of 2007, a series of massive forest fires broke out in
several areas across Greece. The most destructive and lethal infernos
raged from August 23 to August 27 mainly in western and southern
Peloponnese as well as in southern Euboea, resulting in 68 confirmed
fatalities as of September 21. Some of these firestorms are believed
to be the result of arson although many proved to be the result of
mere negligence. Hot temperatures (three consecutive heat waves of
over 40C / 105F) and drought have made the 2007 summer an especially
severe one in Greece.[1] From the end of June 2007 to early September
2007, over 3,000 forest fires were recorded across the nation.
According to the World Wide Fund for Nature-Greece, overall these
wildfires destroyed a total of 177,265 hectares (438,040 acres). Nine
more people were killed in blazes in June and July.

Donation of 18000 EUR for Rehabilitation of Archaeological Monuments
of great Importance in Crete Island and Revealment of Frescos (Wall
Painting) of the Early Cretan School (December 27, 2007) RECEIPT from
the Bank[30]

WSEAS offered the amount of 18000 EUR for the Rehabilitation of the
ancient Temples "Agia Triada" & "Panagia" in the village Sfaka, Sitia,
Lassithi Prefecture, Crete, Greece. In these monuments, constructed
around 1500 during the Venetian occupation of Crete, there were
several and important Frescos (Wall Paintings) under the Plasters
("Sovas") of the Churches. WSEAS supported financially this project
and now these very old frescos (Wall Paintings, Hagiographies) were
revealed after the removal of plasters and the visitors can admire
works of the early Cretan School. WSEAS is willing to help the world
cultural heritage by actions like this. We hope to organize an
excursion to this place in one of our next Conferences in Crete.

Donation of the 15% of the registration fees from 4 conferences to the
tsunami victims (February 2005) The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, was
an undersea earthquake that occurred at 00:58:53 UTC (07:58:53 local
time) December 26, 2004, with an epicentre off the west coast of
Sumatra, Indonesia. The earthquake triggered a series of devastating
tsunamis along the coasts of most landmasses bordering the Indian
Ocean, killing more than 225,000 people in eleven countries, and
inundating coastal communities with waves up to 30 m (98 ft). This was
the ninth deadliest natural disaster in modern history. Indonesia, Sri
Lanka, India, Thailand, and Myanmar were hardest hit. With a magnitude
of between 9.1 and 9.3, it is the second largest earthquake ever
recorded on a seismograph. This earthquake had the longest duration of
faulting ever observed, between 8.3 and 10 minutes. It caused the
entire planet to vibrate as much as 1 cm (0.4 in). The disaster is
known by the scientific community as the great Sumatra-Andaman
earthquake, and is also known as the Asian Tsunami and the Boxing Day
Tsunami. The tsunami occurred exactly one year after the 2003 Bam
earthquake and exactly two years before the 2006 Hengchun earthquake.
The plight of the many affected people and countries prompted a
widespread humanitarian response. In all, the worldwide community
donated more than $7 billion (2004 US dollars) in humanitarian aid.

Donation of the 10% of the registration fees from 4 conferences to the
victims of the earthquake of the town Bam in IRAN (December 2003)

On December 26, 2003 at 5:26 AM local time(1:56 AM UTC) Bam Citadel
"the biggest adobe structure of the world" and most of the city of Bam
proper were devastated by an earthquake. The United States Geological
Survey estimated its magnitude as 6.6 on the Richter scale. The BBC
reported that "70% of the modern city of Bam" was destroyed. Death
toll numbers as high as 80,000 were rumoured on the street and 70,000
reported in the media. However, the total death toll was given as
56,230 on January 17 and the latest estimate from Tehran has halved
previous estimates to 26,271 deaths. An additional 50,000 were
reported injured, however this number is very uncertain; the most
reported number is 30,000, which may have originated from an early
Reuters account. According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, the old
Bam Citadel was "levelled to the ground". An international relief
effort to help the survivors got under way as soon as news of the
scale of the disaster reached the outside world. Rescue efforts
quickly became a body recovery exercise, with many of the dead being
buried in mass graves with the mullahs sanctioning abbreviated Islamic
burial rites due to the huge numbers and fear of disease. The high
death toll occurred because very few people who were trapped when
their mud-brick homes collapsed managed to survive. Rescue workers
reported that the collapsing mud-brick structures had completely
disintegrated and buried people in piles of earth, rather than
trapping them in voids or air pockets between building slabs, as would
happen in a concrete building collapse. Those few who did survive
being trapped were generally rescued within the first few hours, after
being dug out by local survivors, or were trapped in ventilated air
pockets. Among the survivors of the earthquake was 97-year-old
Sharbanou Mazandarani, who was trapped in her home for eight days.
Rescue workers took three hours to dig her out after sniffer dogs
found her. She survived by being under a table near a ventilation
pipe. The international relief effort staged in the earthquake's
aftermath helped to thaw relations somewhat between Iran and western
countries. Numerous countries (including the United States and UK)
sent supplies and search-and-rescue teams including the International
Rescue Corps. In February of 2004 Bam was visited by Charles, Prince
of Wales, a further indication of the improvement of international
relations following the disaster.

[edit] History

[edit] Recording
Jackson began recording demos for the anticipated follow-up to
Thriller a few months after his last performance with The Jacksons
after their successful Victory Tour. Recording took place between
January 5 and July 9, 1987[3] (except for Another Part of Me which
was recorded for Captain Eo in 1986). Jackson wrote a reported sixty
songs for the new album and recorded thirty, wanting to use them all
on a three-disc set. Instead his longtime producer Quincy Jones cut it
down to ten tracks and a bonus song making it a single LP. The CD
release contained the bonus track, "Leave Me Alone". Jackson wrote
nine of the eleven tracks himself while Terry Britten (writer of Tina
Turner's "What's Love Got to Do With It") and Graham Lyle wrote "Just
Good Friends" and Siedah Garrett and Glen Ballard wrote "Man In The
Mirror". Contributions from other musicians included Stevie Wonder who
sung a duet with Jackson on "Just Good Friends" while Steve Stevens
contributed a guitar solo for "Dirty Diana". Originally "Bad" was to
have supposedly been a duet between Jackson and Prince. However, the
duet was canceled after, Jones said, Prince told him that the song
"would be a hit without (him) on it". Prince later jokingly assumed
the reason for not performing the song was he was concerned about the
"your butt is mine" lyric. Another song, "I Just Can't Stop Loving
You", was also supposed to feature a famous female singer. Reportedly
Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston all turned down
the duet offer. R&B singer-songwriter Siedah Garrett was picked by
Quincy Jones to sing with him on the song. Song choices were
difficult: according to Jones, he and Jackson discussed two songs
Jackson penned that Jones had wanted from the album. While Jackson had
written a song called "Streetwalker", Jones loved Jackson's "Another
Part of Me". Jones said the decision to include "Another Part of Me"
was due to Jackson's manager Frank DiLeo "shaking his ass" to "Another
Part of Me". Jones also said Jackson chastised DiLeo, who he nicknamed
"Rubba", for it.

[edit] Reception
By the time Jackson released this album, sales of its predecessor,
Thriller, had already reached forty million, raising expectations for
Bad. Bad became the first of Michael's albums to debut at number-one
on the Billboard Top 200 where it remained for the next six
consecutive weeks. The RIAA certified Bad for having sold eight
million copies in the U.S. alone. In the U.K, the album sold 500,000
copies in just five days and is currently certified 13x platinum, for
sales of 3.9 million making it Jackson's biggest-selling album in the
UK. Globally, it's Jackson's overall second best-selling recording,
with 32 million copies sold[4].

Jackson set another record with this album, becoming the first - and
currently, only artist to have five songs to hit number-one from one
album.[5] In July 2006, it was announced by the The Official UK Charts
Company that Bad was the ninth biggest selling album in British
history.[6]. It turned out to be the last collaborative effort by
Jackson and Jones, as Jackson moved on to write and produce more of
his own records, particularly with Teddy Riley, Jimmy Jam and Terry
Lewis and Rodney Jerkins.

Rolling Stone stated that "even without a milestone recording like
"Billie Jean", Bad is still a better record than Thriller."[7] The
magazine further went on to say that the "filler" content in Bad -
including songs such as "Speed Demon", "Dirty Diana" and "Liberian
Girl" - is written by Jackson himself, making Bad "richer, sexier and
better than Thriller's forgettables."[7]

In 2001, a special edition was released with three new songs and a new
booklet containing lyrics and never-before-seen photos.

[edit] Marketing strategy
Main articles: Captain EO, Moonwalker, and Bad Tour
During the Bad period was one of the first times Jackson used
marketing to his advantage, more so than he had with Thriller. A year
before Bad, Jackson used several tactics to get the media interested
in his short film, Captain EO, during the recording of Bad. Jackson
played a space captain in the mini-film, which was produced by George
Lucas. By the time Jackson released Bad, he produced a commemorative
special on his life, Michael Jackson: The Legend Continues, which
aired on CBS. At the end of the documentary, the channel debuted
Jackson's "Bad", which featured then up-and-coming actor Wesley
Snipes, in its mini-film version. Jackson's marketing strategy,
mastered by Frank DiLeo among others, also included Jackson producing
another mini-movie around the time of the Bad tour. That film,
Moonwalker, included performances of songs from "Bad" including "Speed
Demon", "Leave Me Alone" and "Smooth Criminal", the latter two
released as sole videos at the end of the film. Jackson also used the
opportunity to write about his life up until that point releasing
1988's Moonwalk. Jackson's tour for "Bad" did well grossing $125
million by the end of its tenure. Though Jackson furthered his stance
as a global pop superstar, in America, he failed to match to the sales
of Thriller having some in the media calling it a "disappointment"
compared to Thriller.

If your habits resemble those of average Americans, you generate about
4.6 pounds of solid trash per day. This adds up to big trouble for the
environment. Americans are generating waste products faster than
nature can break them down and using up resources faster than they can
be replaced.

How can we find ways to meet our current economic and social needs
without compromising the ability of our children, and our children's
children, to do the same? Our success will depend on understanding the
difference between

Sustainable practices: practices that provide ongoing economic and
social benefits without degrading the environment.

Unsustainable practices: "quick fixes" that fill an immediate need for
resources. Over time, however, these practices deplete or damage
natural resources so they cannot be used or enjoyed by future
generations.

In this exhibit, you can find out how to improve next year's
environmental record. You'll learn how waste is handled now and how
some communities are doing it better. In the activities, you can test
your knowledge about hazardous waste we generate in our homes and try
to shrink a landfill.

Start by learning a few facts about solid waste.

"Garbage" is inspired by programs from Race to Save the Planet.

Trips, Games and Alpacas
August 15th, 2007 by jose

Got back 2 weeks ago from our lovely trip to the land of heat, New
York City. Some of the stops included Magnolias Bakery (cupcake
heaven) and Lombardis Pizzeria (supposedly the first pizzeria in
America). Heres a couple of food photos from each place:

Heres a list of upcoming trips:
Thanksgiving: Puerto Rico
Xmas: Las Vegas
Spring Break: Italy

I got my XBOX 360 back from free repair hell last week. After taking a
month-long break, Im ready to play into the late hours of the night
again. Heres the schedule.
August 21: BioShock
September 25: Halo 3
October 29: Guitar Hero III
November 5: Call of Duty 4

Thats it for now. Keep it real. Foogahteh real.

Body Worlds 2 at Science and Industry Museum
February 12th, 2007 by jose

We went this weekend to see Body Worlds 2 at the Museum of Science and
Industry in Chicago with our friends Kim, Kate and Matt. It was very
interesting and creepy at the same time. It reminded me a bit of
Uncle Frank from the Hellraiser series.

Apparently it takes a year and a half to get a body ready for the
exhibition. Since you werent allowed to take any photos within the
exhibit I found a few photos online to give you a taste.

Finished Rainbow Six: Vegas
February 11th, 2007 by jose

Finished Rainbow Six: Vegas for the XBOX 360 last week. Definitely
check it out if you enjoyed Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (GRAW) or
Gears of War. Speaking of GRAW, a demo of GRAW 2 came out last week.
The finished game should be out on March 6th. Im in the middle of
Lost Planet and Halo 2 (yes, I never played it before). Thinking of
getting Crackdown (Feb 20th) and Guitar Hero II (April 7th) for the
360 next

November 11th, 2006 by jose

I finished Gears of War tonight. Excellent game and a new standard for
tactical shooters that will be tough to beat. Now the wait begins for
Capcoms Lost Planet: Extreme Condition

Finished G.R.A.W.
September 4th, 2006 by jose

I finished Tom Clancys Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter over the
weekend. It takes longer to memorize the name than to finish the
actual game. I definitely recommend it for any XBOX 360 owner.
